Cocoa with Santa
Northtown residents receive gifts of toys for their children in collaboration with RC Fire Departments’ Spark of Love. First come, first served basis. Limited to number of families designated by the Fire Department. Toys are distributed when received before Christmas.
During the holiday season, Northtown Community Center will be collecting unwrapped toys as well as monetary donations which we will be purchasing toys with, for children ages 3 months to 16 years old. For each donation you make, you will receive a ticket to enter a raffle.
College Scholarship Program
College scholarship for students who have demonstrated exceptional community service and leadership and who desire to attend college. NHDC will provide one scholarship of $1,500.00 per year for up to four years to assist with payment of student tuition and college expenses. Open to students in the Chaffey Joint Union School district. Scholarship packets are available at Chaffey Joint Union High Schools and the Northtown Community Center by mid February of each school year for graduating seniors.
After school Recreation and Tutoring
Open to elementary, middle, and high school students who attend schools within the Cucamonga and Chaffey Joint Union High School Districts. Children may play pool, play station, ping-pong, Foosball, air hockey, computer games, watch movies and more. Tutoring is also available for students who need help with math, reading, or English. Participants must register at the Northtown Community Center and have an emergency card on file. Monday through Thursday 2:39-4:30 p.m. (times and days may vary, please call to verify or see monthly calendar)
Summer Day Camp
Northtown children ages seven to ten attend camp three weeks each summer. Children receive instruction, play games, make crafts and may take field trips, which relate to the theme of the camp. NCC Summer Camp is limited to 30 children on a first come, first served basis.
Senior Food Giveaway
Free groceries at the Community Center every Monday and Thursday from 10:00-11:30am. Items may vary weekly. Ex. Rice, pasta, canned food, fresh fruits and veggies, chips, donuts etc.
School Community Service
High school and college students are given the opportunity to interact/tutor elementary and middle school students as part of their requirements for graduation. Ongoing Monday through Friday. Please call to inquire.
NCC Closet
Donated Clothes and other necessary items are available for pick up for babies, children and adults in need. Donations gladly accepted.
Thanksgiving Baskets
Northtown residents in need may receive turkey and all the trimmings for a Thanksgiving dinner on a first come basis, depending on the amount of baskets donated to NCC.
Distribution takes place Thanksgiving week.
Job Application Assistance – Currently not an active program
Northtown residents filing out job applications may bring them to the center for assistance with their paperwork, job searches on the Internet and mock interviews. By appointment only.
Healthy Snack Program – Currently not an active program
Healthy Snacks provided after school Monday through Friday at the Community Center from September to May on a first come, first served basis.
College/Financial Aid Application Assistance – Currently not an active program
Potential students and/or their parents meet to discuss colleges, meeting admission requirements, applying for financial aid, deadlines, and follow up. By appointment only.
Healthy Families, Medical, and Social Security Application Assistance – Currently not an active program
Northtown residents can bring in applications to be filled out for these social service agencies. Follow up is done with each family and use of the Internet is also available if needed. By appointment only.
Back Pack Give Away – Currently not an active program
Three Hundred children are provided with new backpacks for the new school year. First come, first served basis. Sponsored by Frito Lay and NHDC. Backpack distribution occurs in July. Registration for receipt of backpacks occurs the day of the distribution at the distribution site.
Emergency Services Referrals – Currently not an active program
Referrals are available to residents for emergency food, shelter, landlord tenant disputes, immigration, low cost medical, dental services, legal aid, etc. All services are available by appointment only and are free of charge.
VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) – Currently not an active program
Free income tax assistance for persons residing in San Bernardino County with incomes less than $60,000 per year. Saturdays, February through April on a first come, first served basis.
